Mastered your 2 Star kayaking and ready to specialize? Step up to sea or whitewater qualification with the BCU 3 Star award
The 3 Star certification carries with it a high level of skills and leadership. Paddlers attaining this standard will be considered as intermediate kayakers - over the 3 to 4 days of training and assessment you will cover the techniques and knowledge for a specific discipline or environment - whether that be sea kayaking or inland and whitewater.
A 2 Star qualification is not essential prior to taking on the 3 Star award, however paddling must be of the equivalent standard, and we recommend most people will benefit from following this path - Liquid Leisure run regular 2 Star courses from the same centre in Beaulieu.
Sea-based training and assessments are run throughout the year. The course takes place in Dorset, and during your two days of training you will cover planning and navigation as well as technique lessons in moderate sea conditions. The assessment takes one further day, which is performed primarily on the water. A perfect course for club-level paddlers or those looking to progress their skills; kayaking in open water requires confidence in your abilities in the boat, and a degree of comfort swimming in deep waters (with a buoyancy aid).
Liquid Logistics will supply all the equipment required for the course, although you are welcome to bring your own boat or kit if you have them. The full syllabus, trainer notes and assessment notes for the courses can be downloaded here.
Due to the more specialised nature of this course, Liquid Leisure request that you contact them prior to booking.
