The FSRT award ensures that paddlers have suitable safety and rescue skills to operate safely on sheltered water and can deal quickly and effectively with any simple emergency or capsize situation that may arise including towing and flat water swimming rescues.
The FSRT is a pre-requisite for those who want to complete the BCU UKCC Level 1 Coach course. This is a 2 day training course that covers all the required skills and theory (no assessment is required). In order to get the most from this course you should be a competent flat water paddler of around 2 Star standard.
This is a two day course - expect to spend around 7 hours on the water each day
ProAdventure run this course all-year round. For groups of 4 or more you will be able to select any available date; individuals or pairs will be required to join other group bookings. Once you have placed your order the ProAdventure team will contact you to arrange your booking dates and times.
All safety kit and equipment is provided.
What You'll Need:
You'll need to bring swimwear, a towel, a pair of baggy shorts, and an old pair of trainers that will get wet.
Ability Level Requirements:
Paddlers should be at BCU 2 Star standard (certification not required but must be able to demonstrate 2 Star skills if required)
The minimum age for for this course is 16 (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian), and participants must have a chest size less than 48" to fit bouyancy aids safely. ProAdventure will do their best to be as inclusive as possible so that everyone can take part in all activities, but it does depend somewhat on what kinds of disabilities and requirements people have. Please get in touch before booking to discuss your specific requirements.
You will have an instructor with you throughout this course.
There are public car parks less than 2 minutes walk from the centre, and you will need to use your own vehicle to travel to and from activity venues. Buses to Llangollen stop 150m along the road from the centre, whilst the nearest train station is Ruabon, approximately 4 miles away. There is a regular bus service between Llangollen and Ruabon station. If you will be travelling by public transport please let the ProAdventure team know when you make your booking.
